In an exclusive Q&A with Animation Journal, author and series co-producer Paola Myriam Visconti (PMV) and Katerina Pshenitsyna (KP), General Manager of co-production partner TwelveP Animation, share insights into expanding the published book series into a multi-platform global franchise spanning animation, digital content, and licensing.
1. Can you give us some background about the project, from publishing to animation?
PMV: I created Dynowish as a universe built around the transformative power of dreams and imagination, and the project first gained recognition through publishing. Following its launch in Italy with Giunti Editore, one of the country’s leading publishing houses, the books expanded internationally through Obelisco Ediciones in Spain, Yapı Kredi Yayınları in Turkey, and EKSMO in Russia, reaching readers across different cultures and markets.
The stories follow Ginny and Leo, two siblings whose lives are transformed when they meet Dynowish, the Protector of Dreams, and discover a hidden universe where dreams, imagination, and courage have the power to shape reality.
As the universe expanded, it became clear that Dynowish contained all the elements needed for a broader transmedia franchise: a rich mythology, memorable characters, magical creatures, multiple kingdoms, and strong storytelling foundations.
The project also developed a unique artistic dimension through the collaboration with internationally renowned sculptor Antonio Signorini, whose monumental golden Dynowish sculpture became a symbol of the brand and its message.
Today, Dynowish is evolving into a cross-media family entertainment property that combines publishing, animation, digital content, gaming, educational initiatives, and immersive experiences. The animated series represents the next major step in bringing this universe to audiences worldwide.
2. At which stage is the project currently, and what are your plans for YouTube following launch?
KP: In the past year, extensive work has been completed on world-building, character development, visual identity, franchise planning, and story architecture. The project is being developed with a long-term vision that extends well beyond a single animated production.
Alongside the series, we are developing a dedicated YouTube and digital content strategy designed to build audience engagement and expand the universe across multiple platforms. We see YouTube not only as a marketing channel but as an important ecosystem where children can discover characters, stories, educational content, and short-form adventures connected to the main franchise. Our objective is to create a growing community around the brand while developing multiple entry points into the Dynowish universe.
3. What are your main goals at MIFA?
PMV: MIFA represents an important milestone in Dynowish’s international growth strategy. Our main objective is to connect with partners who share our vision of building Dynowish into a long-term global family franchise.
We are looking to engage with broadcasters, distributors, co-producers, investors, licensing partners, gaming companies, and digital content specialists interested in supporting the development of the property across multiple territories and platforms.
Beyond production discussions, we are particularly interested in strategic partnerships that can help accelerate the growth of the wider franchise ecosystem, including animation, publishing, gaming, consumer products, and digital experiences.
“We are particularly interested in meeting partners who truly understand how the animation market is evolving. The industry is changing rapidly, and we believe that building a successful family IP today requires more than following traditional production and distribution models. We are looking for companies and individuals who can combine creative excellence with innovation, who understand the opportunities created by digital platforms, community engagement, gaming, short-form content, emerging technologies, and new audience behaviours.”
PMV
The market is evolving too quickly for yesterday’s models to be the only answer. We are looking for partners who understand where animation is going, not only where it has been. Dynowish is not being developed as a traditional television property. It is being designed as a living ecosystem that can grow across multiple platforms, formats, and generations. For this reason, we are seeking partners who are willing to think beyond conventional industry frameworks and help shape the next generation of family entertainment. MIFA provides a unique opportunity to meet the partners who can help bring that vision to life.
4. What are the next steps for this project?
KP: The next phase focuses on production, international partnerships, and audience expansion. We are currently advancing discussions with production, distribution, and financing partners while continuing to expand the Dynowish ecosystem through publishing, short-form content, digital initiatives, and educational experiences.
At the same time, we are actively exploring opportunities in gaming, interactive storytelling, and consumer products, with the goal of creating a long-term entertainment brand that can grow across multiple generations and platforms.
PMV: Our ambition is not simply to launch an animated series, but to establish Dynowish as an original European family franchise with global appeal, capable of connecting books, animation, digital media, gaming, and real-world experiences.
Dynowish was never conceived as a single book series or a single television project. From the beginning, it was imagined as a universe capable of growing across generations, platforms, and cultures, united by one simple belief: Dreams matter — but it is what we do with them that changes the world.
