Monster Mia, a new animated adventure, approaches the big screen in this spooky season at Regal theatres nationwide on Oct. 9. The release marks the film’s U.S. theatrical debut following its world premiere earlier this year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Directed by Verena Fels, the film follows 12-year-old Mia, a rebellious young girl who has never quite fit in. After trouble at school sends Mia and her scruffy pet rat Quentin to the mysterious Rotwood Academy, she discovers her new classmates are actual monsters. As the only human among them, Mia must hide her identity while navigating her strange new school and learning to embrace what makes her different.
Brooks LeBoeuf, Senior Vice President of U.S. Content at Regal:
Families are always looking for a reason to get out to the movies together, and this fall we wanted to give them one more. Monster Mia is a fun, imaginative adventure that offers kids and parents something new to discover, and we’re excited to bring it exclusively to Regal theatres across the country and give families the opportunity to experience it together on the big screen.

From Vienna-based animation studio Arx Anima and distributed internationally by Sola Media, Monster Mia was selected for Annecy Presents, part of the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival’s Official Selection showcasing animated features from around the world. The Austria, Spain, and Germany co-production is based on A.B. Saddlewick’s Monstrous Maud book series.
