Trotro & Zaza moves into production for Season 2

After a highly successful debut earlier this year, the 2D animated series TROTRO & ZAZA (78 x 3’30”), produced by Ellipse Animation and Studio Campedelli, is officially set for Season 2, confirming its status as a flagship preschool IP.

Launched in April on France Télévisions, TROTRO & ZAZA quickly established itself as a major success across both digital and linear, gathering more than 13 million views and becoming a record-breaking launch on Okoo – a channel from France Télévisions.

The series builds on the iconic French preschool property created by Bénédicte Guettier, first published in 2000 by Gallimard Jeunesse and adapted into a successful animated series in 2004.

With more than 4.2 millions books sold, Trotro is one of France’s most recognizable preschool characters, a brand known for its strong emotional connection with young audiences and the trust of parents. The IP is also a major digital success, generating more than 1.2 billion views across its various YouTube channels worldwide.

In this new series, we’re introduced to Zaza, Trotro’s little sister, a lively and expressive toddler. Together, they explore the everyday world through the lens of siblinghood, turning simple moments into playful, emotional, and relatable adventures.

Targeting children aged 3 to 5, TROTRO & ZAZA explores key developmental themes such as autonomy, self-confidence, empathy, and creativity. Each three-minute episode captures a moment of daily life, approached with humor and tenderness, in line with the expectations of today’s families.

With Season 2 soon in production, and a slate of 78 new episodes, the series will further explore the emotional bond between the siblings, delivering new stories inspired by everyday childhood experiences.

Pierre Siracusa, Head of Children’s Programming and Animation at France Télévisions:

Building on the success of this new adaptation, we are continuing our support for the French production
of Trotro and Zaza’s heartwarming and mischievous adventures. Through play, discovery and sibling
bonding, the series humorously celebrates the little moments that help children grow. Trotro may have
welcomed a little sister, but he still retains his trademark cheeky streak! One of the most beloved
preschool characters on the Okoo platform, his popularity both in France and internationally is also a
source of pride for us as a leading supporter of French animated content.

Caroline Duvochel, Head of Audiovisual & Innovation of Média-Participations and Managing Director of Ellipse Animation:

“We are extremely proud of the exceptional performance and audience reception of TROTRO & ZAZA. This iconic brand has resonated across generations, and seeing it reach new heights more than 20 years after the original Trotro first launched is truly remarkable. We thank France Télévisions for their continued trust and look forward to unveiling new episodes soon.”

The first season of TROTRO & ZAZA is a 2D animated series for preschoolers, directed by Celine Papazian, produced by Ellipse Animation and Studio Campedelli, both part of the Média-Participations group – who handles the distribution through its divison Mediatoon Distibution- and commissioned by France Télévisions, Rai Kids and Radio Télévision Suisse, based on the work of Bénédicte Guettier and published by Gallimard Jeunesse.
