The Kitchen, the entertainment industry’s only Emmy Award-winning language localization studio, is celebrating its 25th year as a global language service provider. The official anniversary coincides with Cinco de Mayo (May 5), marking a quarter-century of partnership with global clients and industry professionals.
From Miami Beach to the Emmys Founded in 2001 in Miami Beach, The Kitchen—alongside its former parent company TM Systems—first gained global recognition by earning two Primetime Emmy® Awards for its end-to-end language software suite. This suite covered translation, dubbing, subtitling, and quality control, immediately placing the studio at the forefront of the localization world.
In addition to its Emmy wins, the company received the AIM Award for Achievement in Media from the National Association of Broadcasters.
Growth and Infrastructure What began as a three-person operation has evolved into a massive global entity:
- Miami Headquarters: A five-floor, state-of-the-art facility located in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District.
- Production Power: The facility features 17 dubbing suites and a global network of linguists and voice talent.
- Elite Client Roster: The studio serves major industry players including NBCUniversal, Paramount, Discovery, ITV, BBC, Hallmark, FOX, Sony, and ZDF.
Global Expansion and Strategy The Kitchen’s international footprint began expanding in 2015 with The Kitchen EMEA. This was followed by a Madrid-based language hub and playout center in 2023, enabling the studio to provide near 24/7 service coverage across time zones. In 2024, the company further strengthened its insight by establishing a Board of Global Influencers/Ambassadors to navigate international industry trends.
The Future: Heading to the West Coast As the studio looks toward the next 25 years, leadership under CEO and Co-Founder Ken Lorber and CMO Deeny Kaplan remains focused on innovation.
“The industry continues to evolve, and so do we,” said Lorber. “Our focus remains on delivering innovative solutions that meet the changing needs of our clients, based on the latest proven technology”.
The next major milestone is the launch of a new Los Angeles studio and language hub, specifically designed to support major Hollywood studios and international distributors. The West Coast expansion is expected to be operational by Q3 of 2026.
