A year after announcing its two standalone episodes “Smurfs Adventures”, Peyo Company heads back to Annecy and brings smurfy news for fans.

Both standalones will air globally on Nickelodeon, a long-time partner of Peyo Company and broadcaster of the hit CG 2021 series. In Belgium, RTBF and Ketnet have also confirmed their partnership, bringing “Smurfs Adventures” to children and longstanding fans of the beloved blue characters alike.

As Peyo Company – founded by Peyo’s daughter, Véronique Culliford, to ensure the perpetuation of Peyo’s creations – celebrates the 45th anniversary of the classic Hanna-Barbera “The Smurfs” TV series, these two brand-new TV adventures will take our little blue friends out of their village to face new challenges. The projects maintain the core package of laughter, excitement, and friendship that has been the DNA of “The Smurfs” series since their creation in 1958 and its TV reboot in 2021.

Spanning across genres, these standalone episodes bring a new depth to the fast-paced, deeply addictive Smurfs series, with higher stakes for the well-known characters of the Smurfs’ universe.

The New Adventures Detailed

  • The First Standalone: Takes place during a competition of magic skills between wizards from all over the world. It focuses on the evil wizard Gargamel, reminding fans exactly why he wants to catch the Smurfs more than anything else in the world.

  • The Second Standalone: Introduces a brand-new character named Baby Smurfie. She is an adorable little girl with a cute yet mischievous face, and a head already filled with good (actually bad) ideas.

As the teams prepare to bring the next blue wave of Smurfs to the lakeside town of Annecy, Peyo Company announced a “Smurfs Adventures” social teaser, to be revealed soon.

Industry Reactions

Nele De Wilde, Executive Producer, CCO Audiovisual & Music, Peyo Company says:

“These standalone episodes were born out of a real demand from our partners for additional content between seasons. It’s also an opportunity for us to do something different: a 22-minutes format that gives us more room to tell a story, and a higher ambition both narratively and visually.”

“The Smurfs have been part of the Ketnet family for ages. We are absolutely delighted to welcome these two new adventures at our Ketnet home. We are sure that the Ketnet viewers will love these two brilliant specials.”

— Telidja Klaï, Content Manager, VRT

“The Smurfs have an extraordinary ability to reinvent themselves, while remaining unmistakably true to who they are. RTBF is proud to support this new adventure, proving that timeless characters can continue to evolve, inspire and capture the hearts of audiences around the world.”

— Paola Acosta, Animation Commissioning Manager, RTBF
