The CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée) returns to Annecy with a rich programme of meetings and initiatives that confirm France’s central role in the global animation landscape. Present at MIFA with a dedicated stand, the Centre will support professionals, producers and creators throughout the week through a series of events focused on the sector’s key challenges and opportunities.
Among the highlights are the first edition of the Annecy European Animation Summit and the inauguration of the new Cité Internationale du Cinéma d’Animation, a permanent space dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of animation, designed to host exhibitions, screenings, educational activities and artist residencies. While the Cité represents a major cultural investment aimed at strengthening Annecy’s role well beyond the days of the festival, the Summit has been conceived to foster dialogue between European institutions and industry stakeholders – topics at the heart of the discussion will include European cultural and audiovisual policy, the competitiveness of creative industries, the regulation of digital platforms, and the international circulation of works and talent.
Considerable attention will also be devoted to market analysis: during the conference Les tendances du marché de l’animation, the CNC will present an updated overview of the French animation sector, examining production, financing, distribution and employment, while also addressing the opportunities opened up by AI and its growing impact across the entire value chain.
Internationalization represents another key pillar of the French presence in Annecy; in particular, two sessions will showcase the opportunities offered by the Aide aux Cinémas du Monde programme, recently reformed to strengthen international collaborations, and by the Crédit d’impôt international, a scheme that allows foreign productions to benefit from a rebate of up to 30% of eligible expenditure incurred in France in partnership with local studios.
The programme is rounded out by initiatives dedicated to supporting creators, with insights into development, writing and production schemes for audiovisual works, short films, video games and immersive projects, alongside a series of screenings and exhibitions celebrating the heritage of French animation, including a tribute to André Martin, a key figure in the promotion of animated cinema.
