The Animationsinstitut of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and FMX arrive at Annecy 2026 with a presence that brings together students, alumni, faculty members and industry professionals, reaffirming the German school’s role as one of Europe’s leading incubators of animation talent. Through competitions, pitches, panels and networking initiatives, the programme unfolds across multiple fronts, highlighting both new projects and educational pathways geared toward the international animation industry.
One of this year’s key developments is the introduction of the Animationsinstitut Filmakademie BW Prize, an award that will be presented for the first time during the MIFA Pitches to a European team or project distinguished by an innovative vision in technology, production or IP development.
On the creative side, The Amazing Kitsuverse stands out with its selection in the Graduation Films Competition: directed by Leo Neumann, the short film tells the story of an elderly woman lured by a mysterious fox into a world where any wish can be fulfilled with a simple clap of the hands, only to discover the hidden price behind that apparent perfection. The project will also be at the centre of a discussion on the relationship between AI and animated production, featuring Neumann and technical director Hannes Sturm during MIFA.
The institute’s presence also includes the feature film Monster Mia, the project Condenaditos, student participation in international pitching initiatives, and a wide range of networking activities, underscoring Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg’s ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue between education, innovation and the animation industry.
